STATEMENT

I live in North Andover, Massachusetts. I was born and raised in The Netherlands and moved to the United States as a young adult. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and I am working towards my MFA at The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University.

In my paintings I am addressing how the process of structure, organization and repetition generates comfort and strength and how the deliberate and careful building of shapes offers a sense of constancy. These ideas are manifested in painting of abstract shapes which are constructed with a variety of components, both geometric and organic, and with important consideration of color choices. Each shape suggests a protagonist with a unique personality and environment. Through ambiguity, which I make important in my work, I leave room for both myself and the viewer to make personal connections and associations.
